You can currently get the ID.4 in two trim levels: the Pro, and Pro S. The Pro offers 19-inch wheels, DC fast-charging capability up to 125 kW, keyless entry, automatic headlights, heated and power-adjustable front seats, dual-zone automatic climate control with rear air vents, and a leather-wrapped and heated steering wheel. There are three different levels of available charging for the ID.4:
The U.S. national average is currently $0.13/kWh, meaning that the ID.4 costs approximately $10 to charge from empty to full at home. The charging station itself runs between $500 and $700 to purchase. For example, the Electrify Home Level 2 Charger is $649.00 +tax. If needed, installation could require an electrician which would increase cost, depending on the electrical upgrades needed for your home. Installation of a Level 2 charging station is one of the most common residential applications today and allows you to fully charge your ID.4 in less time.
It’s highly recommended to have a professional electrician install a Level 2 charging station because you’ll be working with your home’s electrical system. First, you will need to run 240 volts from the breaker panel to the place where you plan to install your charging station. You will need a double-pole circuit breaker attached to two 120-volt buses to double the circuit voltage, using a four-strand cable. This cable needs to be properly secured and insulated to prevent damage to your electrical system. Finally, mount your charging system and attach it to the 240-volt cable.
Yes! It’s important to note that according to EV Charging, in 2019, there were approximately 17,500 charging stations across the nation. That’s compared to 168,000 gas stations. While your options for charging stations are more limited, you will be able to charge your ID.4 at any EV Charging station you find.
The ID.4 does not have an extended range, but a confirmed range of the ID.4 Pro at 260 miles on a full charge, it doesn’t need one. The AWD option offers an estimated 240 to 249 miles on a full charge, depending on model, this is an excellent range for an all-wheel-drive, long-range, electric vehicle.
Several electric vehicles qualify for the up to $7,500 federal tax credit incentive, and the Volkswagen ID.4 is one of them. The amount of tax credit is based on the battery size of the electric vehicle, so the ID.4 qualifies for the entire $7,500 available. Up to $7,500 means that if you owe $7,500 or more at the end of the year, you will receive the full value of the credit. If you only owe $5,000, then you would receive that amount in credit. You cannot carry over the unused portion to the following tax year.\
You also receive the $7,500 Federal Tax Credit if you lease your ID.4. Volkswagen Credit passes this to you in the form of a rebate, which lowers the capitalized cost in your transaction. This effectively gives you the full benefit up front, when leasing.
California offers an additional incentive to purchase electric, plug-in hybrid, and fuel cell vehicles known as the California Clean Vehicle Rebate Project (CVRP). Eligible California residents can apply for this rebate through a simple process after purchasing or leasing an ID.4 as long as the customer qualifies and funds are available.

Electrify America charging works in conjunction with an app that helps you track charging status, time remaining, notifies once you’ve achieved your desired level of charging, etc. The app is free to download from the App Store.

The answer is “Yes,” however with a slight modification for the 2022 model. A new 2022 Volkswagen ID.4 includes 3-years of unlimited, free 30-minute fast charging sessions at Electrify America locations across the Unites States, with a 60-minute wait-period between charging sessions. –
That means, you will receive 3 years of free, 30-minute, Level 3 DC fast charging sessions at any Electrify America location throughout the U.S. The session wait time resets every 60 minutes once charging is completed.
With the exception of a road trip, you typically won’t need 30 minutes to reach the recommended 80% charge level on a daily basis. It takes approximately 40 minutes to charge the ID.4 from 5% to 80% at a DC fast charger. Remember, you can set the ID.4 to stop the charging process at any charge level you want to achieve (80%/90%/100%).
